Personalized food packaging: how to choose?

Visit personalized food packaging is a trend that's gaining in popularity. But it's not just a trend, it's a way of making the customer feel more connected to the product.

Packaging designers can use a variety of materials such as paper, cardboard and plastic for their packaging. They can also use different types of finish, such as gloss and matte, for their packaging. They can also personalize their products by using labels with unique logos and fonts, or by adding customized stickers.

Some types of customizable food packaging include:

  • Pouches and customized paper cups with company logos, slogans or initials
  • Customizable labels on jars, containers and bottles that can be used to identify which product is inside.
  • Individualized packaging, enabling customers to tailor their product packaging to their needs
  • Cupcake packaging printed with a personalized message for a birthday party

Packaging is a crucial element of marketing and branding. It's one of the most effective ways of getting your message across, and it's also one of the first things people see when they pick up your product.

There are many different types of packaging, including cardboard and paper boxes, plastic containers and so on. When choosing packaging for your product, it's important to consider which type will best suit your needs.

What factors go into personalization?

When you choose to personalize food packaging, several factors come into play. Let's take a look at some of them.

First of all, the main question we have to ask ourselves is on what medium are we going to establish this personalization? Most food packaging products can be personalized. We therefore need to decide beforehand which products are to be personalized.

Then we need to define the personalization. This means choosing the number of colors, the shapes, the writing and the size of the elements.

Finally, you'll need to choose the series size.

Which food packaging to personalize?

As mentioned above, personalized food packaging is vast. Numerous products can be personalized with the brand's image.

For example, it's possible for a catering professional to personalize kraft bowls. This gives the customer a more complete brand image. Different bowl sizes are also taken into account. As personalization can be costly for small production runs, it's important to identify which food packaging is most widely used, and which is less so.

It is also possible to personalize paper cups for the catering company. Cups can be personalized for any occasion, festive or serious, professional or private. Different cup sizes are available for personalization, however, it is the professional's duty to choose which cup size is most suitable. The material is also an important variable to define. Not all materials have the same properties, and it goes without saying that their use differs too. COVR is at your disposal to answer any questions you may have and to guide you towards the solution that's best for you.

It is also possible for a catering professional to customize plates. You can choose from a range of plate sizes and materials.

This can make the dish more attractive and pleasing to the customer's eye, giving them a complete impression of their experience with the food at the event.

Among the most common personalized food packaging, we can find :

  • Cardboard cups
  • Paper/cardboard plates
  • Kraft bowls
  • Paper napkins
  • The personalized kraft paper bags
  • Placemats
  • Food-grade cardboard boxes
  • French fry cones/bags
  • Pizza boxes

Which personalization to choose?

When requesting product personalization, you'll be asked to specify several design elements. In fact, the graphic design studio in charge of your personalization will first ask you what colors you'd like to adorn your product with. The more colors you choose, the higher the price.

It's also very important to define the size of the designs. You can't choose the same size of lettering and logo for a pizza box and a paper cup. The graphic designer will recommend several designs, so that the result is as successful as possible.

Choosing series size

When choosing to personalize food packaging, it's important to bear in mind that each customization means the creation of a new production line. Since each customization is unique, it has to be created and produced. This fixed cost is significant. It is therefore necessary to consider the size of the series. For a small series, between 250 and 10,000 products, the cost will be rather high. However, if you decide to invest in a large series, i.e. 100,000 units or more, then the cost will be sufficiently amortized to be similar to "classic", non-customized items.

You'll find many customizable items at COVR, available in large series, but also in small series with our new express cardboard cup customization option.
